Citizens Against Corporate Bailouts (CACB) is a coalition of New Yorkers who have united to fight back against Governor Cuomo's so-called 'Clean Energy Standard' mandate - a massive tax hike that went into effect on April 1st, 2017. This brand new tax increase of $7.6 billion will be hidden on our electric bills, making us pay more to keep the lights on.
Even worse, it will be used to bailout upstate nuclear plants owned by Exelon, a big Chicago corporation, that is already making billions of dollars a year in profits. The profits are so large, that Exelon’s CEO’s salary was nearly $16 million last year.
CACB believes it is wrong for our hard earned money to be sent back to Chicago to line the pockets of a CEO. Even Exelon shareholders believe their CEO is paid too much.
New Yorkers already have some of the highest electricity bills in the country. And thanks to Governor Cuomo’s hidden tax, your bill just got higher.
Governor Cuomo is standing up for wealthy billionaires in Chicago. CACB is standing up for YOU.
HOW DID THE CLEAN ENERGY STANDARD MANDATE GO INTO EFFECT?
The Clean Energy Standard mandate was signed by Governor Cuomo, and put into effect by a nameless, faceless agency - the Public Service Commission. Our elected representatives were not given an opportunity to vote on the Clean Energy Standard mandate, a textbook example of taxation without representation.
WHAT CAN CACB DO ABOUT IT?
CACB's goal is to get the New York State Legislature to pass a bill that would strip the Governor and the Public Service Commission's power to impose taxes on us without a vote. If we are going to pay a tax, let it be one that is passed by our elected representatives in the New York State Senate and Assembly - not one imposed on us by the Public Service Commission - a nameless, faceless, big government agency.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Your money is being taken by Governor Cuomo and paid to Exelon, a big Chicago Corporation already making billions of dollars a year in profits. You pay more to keep your lights on, so Exelon and their CEO Chris Crane can line their pockets.
We cannot let this stand. Make your frustration heard. Take action now. Send a message to Governor Cuomo and your New York state legislators.
